Winslow Homer was American painter, illustrator and etcher. He was born in Boston, where he later worked as a lithographer and illustrator.

His artistic education consisted chiefly of his apprenticeship to the Boston commercial lithographer John H.

Bufford, and a few lessons in 1/5(1). In Homer began a series of watercolors on deer hunting in the wilderness of the Adirondacks. One method, called hounding, involved using dogs to track and chase the deer.
